Employment-Based Visa Numbers: Closing out Fiscal Year 2022

As Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 comes to an end, it is very likely that the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Department of State (DOS) will use all employment-based immigrant visas allotted for FY2022.

As of August 31, 2022, USCIS and DOS had used a total of 263,510 employment-based immigrant visas, leaving a balance of less than 20,000 visas to be allocated before the end of the fiscal year on September 30, 2022. In early September, the USCIS also confirmed in a court declaration that there were no remaining employment-based visas for the EB-1 and EB-2 categories. Assuming the USCIS and DOS will exhaust all FY2022 employment-based visa numbers, this would be a significant improvement from FY2021 as more than 66,000 employment-based immigrant visas went unused during the fiscal year.
