USCIS Reports Backlog of Roughly 1.3 Million Applications Awaiting Biometrics Scheduling

The Ombudsman office for the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) recently reported a backlog of roughly 1.3 million applications awaiting scheduling of biometrics appointments, which are most notably required for employment authorization document (EAD) and green card applications. Although the USCIS is reusing previously obtained biometrics data where possible, EAD and green card applications will likely continue to experience significant delays in processing until local Application Support Centers (ASCs) can resume operating at a pre-COVID capacity.
