Canada Begins New Paid Hotel Quarantine Requirement for Air Travelers

As of Monday, February 15th, all air travelers, with a few exceptions, are required to undergo mandatory quarantine at a government-authorized hotel for three (3) days while waiting for the results of their post-arrival COVID molecular test. Individuals who test negative may continue their 14 day quarantine from their residence, whereas individuals who test positive will be immediately required to quarantine at a government facility.

Travelers are required to call 1-800-294-8253 in order to book their stay at their choice of a government-authorized hotel, at the traveler’s own expense. The average cost will be around CAD$2000 and will cover transportation from the airport to the hotel and food for three days, in addition to the stay. Bookings must be completed prior to arrival in Canada. Travelers are required to submit their booking reference through the ArriveCan app.

The mandatory pre-paid quarantine requirement currently does not apply to travel via the land border.
