Trump Administration Issues New Memo Guidance Blocking DACA Benefits

August 7, 2020

On Tuesday, July 28th, DHS Acting Secretary Chad Wolf issued a memorandum changing the Trump Administration’s current guidance on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the Trump Administration’s attempt to rescind the DACA program, which was created by the Obama Administration. Secretary Wolf indicated that, while the Administration reviews the future of the DACA program, that the DHS will reject all new initial requests for DACA, and will continue to process DACA renewal applications, however the validity period of DACA renewal will be shortened from two years to one year. We will keep our clients updated with any developments on the DACA program.
